About the Trusty Genealogists

Author Wanda Tucker has been studying genealogy for twenty years. She was born and grew up in Northeastern Georgia. Beginning with her own family, she researched her way back in time, and ran into Sue Ward on a shared family website. Together, they worked to publish Sue’s book on Edward Williams, a Revolutionary War patriot whom Sue had been pursuing for years. As a consequence of that book, another was written about Edward’s wife Peggy Crittenden’s family, this time with Tucker as co-researcher and co-author. That research was consequential to many outside of the authors’ families, as Peggy turned out to be related to Robert E. Lee, American Presidents, State Governors, and other historical figures. These families had ancestors in England, so Ms. Tucker’s research also included finding many records there. She was able to uncover previously unknown information about well-known historical families. Her second collaboration with author Sue Ward, Pershanna Wilson Sherrill Williams, explored the family Edward Williams produced with his first wife and their descendants. Research is her passion, whether for herself or for others. Other research by Ms. Tucker has been into families in the American West, the Southern Colonies, and on the upper East Coast.

In addition to genealogical research, Wanda Tucker has worked as a professional editor and writer for books, periodicals, and professional newsletters for many years. Her experience enables her to produce clear, easily understandable genealogical documents. Tucker’s goal is to produce a genealogy that reads as an interesting story, not just as “the begats.”

Author Sue Ward worked in both the legal and medical field for her entire career.  She began researching family history in 2002.  Born a California native, her German mother’s family escaped Russia about 1900. Her father’s family is from the South.  She became interested in learning more about her family, making it a part of her everyday life.  Over the years, she has generously helped dozens of people in their research. Many events have taken place which are unforgettable.  One such incident is finding a photo of her great uncle’s father who died when he was a baby.  At age 92, he had not seen his father’s picture for 55 years, thinking they were all destroyed. What tears of joy!

Ms. Ward’s knowledge led to writing manuscripts, articles for a national newsletter, becoming a DAR member at least three times and helping others become members as well.  She has written chapters of books published by other authors.  In 2014, with the encouragement of Judy Thomas and editor Wanda Tucker, she published her prized achievement, “The Life and Times of Patriot Edward Williams.”  Thinking that was the end of her non-fiction writing career, only simple projects were taken on the following year.  While writing the Edward Williams book, she found tidbits of information on the wife of Edward Williams, Peggy Crittenden.  She finally pulled out those notes and slowly began learning about the Crittendens and more.  She shared this information with Wanda Tucker a few months later and book research and writing began. The story needed to be told.  The second book which they co-authored is “Early Virginia Colonial Families, The Crittendens, Downs, Lees, Ludwells, Taylors and Collateral Families”, 2017, followed by Pershanna Wilson Sherrill Williams in 2019.
